Custom Mural Process and Pricing...

Let me start by saying, the process is really a lot simpler than it sounds!

The Initial Consultation

Where do we start? Contact me by email or telephone for a first consultation. The more information I receive beforehand the more productive our first meeting will be.

First Consultation is always Free

In the first meeting, I discuss with you your needs and expectations, inspect the surface and gain a general idea of what your requirements are. You gain insight into the mural creation process.

The first consultation includes,  Reviewing your requirements and ideas for the mural, reviewing design concepts, themes, and complexity of the mural as well preliminary budget and project duration planing.

The first consultation will give you give you a general idea of what this type of project will cost, and perhaps ideas of how to fit your needs in to your budget.

Follow-Up Session (Also Free).

If all goes well with the first consultation, I will prepare a detailed estimate and work schedule considering everything else that is going on at the project site (such as construction or decoration) and plan around your schedule. At this time I also present a plan for duration of the project and as well as alternative ideas and suggestions.

At the conclusion of the follow-up session, you should have a basic understanding of the process I plan to use to create the mural, as well a more accurate estimate and some proposed themes.

You, of course are under no obligation to proceed. If, after reviewing the detailed information, you choose to move the project forward or not, I require a non-refundable deposit to complete the mural design and contract. The deposit will be applied to the total cost of the project should you decide to go forward with the mural.

Mural Design and Contract

Some mural designs are very simple and others are quite extensive. Regardless of the complexity, you should have a good understanding of how your mural will look when we complete the design.

I start by presenting pencil sketches showing one or more themes based on our previous consultations. From these sketches you chose one of the themes or we make adjustments or perhaps combine themes. Following this, we should both have a very detailed view of what your mural will require and I proceed by re-creating the rough sketch in color, with the adjustments included.

After the final drawing is finished, I will require a deposit to begin creating the mural.

The contract proposal is developed concurrently with the mural design. After we review the contract, you should have a clear understanding of all costs and payment terms. I like to schedule 2 to 4 equal payments as the mural is being painted. Small project payments are usually 50% upon contract signing and 50% upon completion. Large projects are segmented into 3 or 4 payments paid in preset stages of the project duration.

Mural Creation

The project begins when we sign the contract. It is important to maintain good communication throughout the project. Any questions or issues should be addressed quickly, and don't worry, I will never present you with a problem that I do not have a proposed solution to.

It is a good idea for you to be present or easily available during the first stages of the mural painting. I usually start by drawing out the mural design on the surface. Usually, this is the time when new ideas come to mind and things get a little adjusted. This is normal, as seing the lines on the walls may inspire both of us with new ideas. These ideas may usually be easily implemented at this stage of the project at no additional cost. Major changes of course will be priced accordingly, always before the work is done so you always have the chance to say no.

In the event that changes are requested that substantially alter work hours or material requirements, we will have to agree to a contract amendment with price changes.

Fortunately this entire process is really a lot simpler than it sounds!

How much a mural costs depends an many factors, such materials needed, design complexity, necessary equipment, surface preparation, working conditions and availability. You can assume that any mural may cost between $4.00 and $80.00 per square foot -- as you can see, a very wide range. This is why I ask you to call or e-mail me, so we may discuss your particular needs and I can provide more accurate pricing.
